The story behind the art
"Proxemics," athlete and artist Tobin Heath's fifth re—inc artwork, was envisioned in the space between the world that was and the world that will be. While Tobin's previous painting "Pixelation" was painted in the fleeting moments between USWNT games and training, "Proxemics" was created in the long days spent in her art studio during quarantine.
The painting is both order and chaos—a grid and a wild wash of colors. It bridges the space between tension of expressing one's truth and eventual joy that comes with accepting ourselves. It speaks to the strain of expectations and the freedom of individuality. It embraces the space between knowing and unknowing and invites us to live in the unknown, if only briefly. To be boundless, and see joy as a way to both resist and reimagine the status quo.
